Mary Ann Yates, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on January 12, 2025, at her residence in Sioux City, IA, at the age of 82. Mary Ann, the daughter of John R. and Loretta Mary (Laddusaw) Sheehan, was born on January 17, 1942, in Le Mars, IA. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School.

Throughout her career, Mary Ann worked at several different businesses, including Zenith, Kmart, Sears, Morningside College, and WIT. In addition, she proudly owned her own house cleaning service for several years. Her diligent work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident in every endeavor she undertook.

Mary Ann was known for her generous spirit and unwavering loyalty to those she loved. She cherished her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also loved her cats dearly.

In her early years, Mary Ann enjoyed bowling. She was also an active member of St. James Global Methodist Church, participating in the ladies’ group and forming lasting friendships within the church community. She always kept her home meticulously clean and enjoyed cooking.

Her family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her husband, Vernon Yates, of Sioux City, one daughter, Natalie (Rob) Broderson, of Sioux City, and one son, Vern (Katie) Yates, of Sioux City. Mary Ann's legacy continues through her nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her son Kenneth McWilliams, and eight siblings. Her memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her, as she touched lives with her kindness and warmth.

A visitation will be held on January 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, both at St. James Global Methodist Church, located at 2032 S Cypress St., Sioux City, IA 51106. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
