Maureen "Rini" (Morrical) Kowalewski

Maureen “Rini” (Morrical) Kowalewski, 78, of Sioux City passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at a local hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Maureen “Rini” Morrical was born in Sioux City and resided in Leeds for most of her life.

She worked as a paraeducator in the Sioux City Community School system.

She was a founding member of the Leeds Bunko Club and a member for over 50 years

She loved crafting, especially drawing and painting, and enjoyed fishing. Her grandkids and great grandkids were the light of her life, and her family always came first.  She would never turn anyone in need away and was a second mother to many of her children’s friends.

She is survived by her sister: Lonna Erickson of Sioux City; her children: Dana and Jim Thompson of Sioux City; Danna Palmer and Roger Schmit of Sioux City; and Ed Combs and Kendell Ramm of Council Bluffs; grandchildren: Alese Palmer, Alex and Nicole Thompson, Cody Wermes and Jordan Jaynes, Logan and Heaven Combs, along with six great-grandchildren with a seventh on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Austin Wermes; her brothers: Raymond and Lewis Morrical; her sister: Norma Parker; and her brother-in-law: Ray Tippery.
