Maxine Bohner

June 26, 1920 — January 25, 2021

Maxine Foster Bohner, 100, passed away Monday, January 25, 2021.  Maxine was born on June 26, 1920 in Sioux City, IA.

 After graduation from Central High School in Sioux City, Maxine studied music at Morningside College and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in 1942.  Maxine had a passion for teaching and started her career as a Music Director in Moville, IA.

 In 1954, Maxine moved to Omaha, NE where she was an educator for the next 20 years.  She taught children from kindergarten through high school. Maxine was also the Christian Education Director at Dundee Presbyterian Church in Omaha.  She returned to Sioux City in 1975.  Maxine had been an active member of P.E.O. since 1966 and belonged to Chapter GR, P.E.O.  As a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux City, Maxine served as a Deacon and as a member of the Chancel Choir.  Maxine enjoyed sharing her love of music and learning with her children and grandchildren.  She also loved art, antiques, history, and traveling.   

Maxine is survived by her daughter Denise (Peter) Smith of Minneapolis, MN and their children; grandson Jeremy Bohner of Omaha, NE; daughters of Dale Bohner, Barbara (William) Clark of Perry, IA; Sandra Worthen of Wadsworth, OH.  She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Maude (Wilson) Foster, her husband Leo Klasna, her husband Dale Bohner, her daughter Susan Newland, and her sister Marjorie Ladwig.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
