Maxine Rose Linafelter, 89, of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at her home while surrounded by family, following a brief illness.Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 6:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.Maxine was born in Hubbard, Nebraska on October 8, 1927, the daughter of Clarence and Ella (Messerschmidt) Francisco. She graduated from South Sioux City High School and Wayne State College. Maxine married Donald Linafelter on August 14, 1949 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE. She enjoyed many years of teaching school, the last years in Winnebago, NE. After retirement she enjoyed being out on nature walks at the farm. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE and was involved in many activities including Laura Chapter #301 Eastern Star and The Red Hat Society. She was an avid reader and supporter of the public library system. Maxine enjoyed music, reading, walking, animals, Husker Team, family and friends, and especially enjoyed all the activities she shared with her grandchildren and watching them grow up.Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Donald Linafelter of South Sioux City, NE; her sons, James and his wife, Terri (Bowman) Linafelter of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Paul Linafelter of South Sioux City, NE; daughter-in-law, Jeannie (Shadbolt) Linafelter of Sioux City, IA; brother, Skip and his wife Deb Francisco of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Vicki Lyons of Sioux City, IA; sister-in-law, Marge Pridie of Omaha, NE; uncle, Alvin Messerschmidt of Valencia, CA; her beloved grandchildren, Dakota and his wife, Jessica Linafelter of McCook Lake, SD, Brock Linafelter of Sioux City, IA, and Allison Linafelter of Sioux City, IA; the many children she taught, loved and cherished throughout the years; and her dog, Missy.Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Elliot Linafelter; granddaughter, Erin Linafelter; and her many walking companion pets throughout the years.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE or the Siouxland Humane Society.
