Merlin G. Olson, 77, of Sioux City, IA, passed away November 21, 2021 at a local nursing home. A celebration of life and time of refreshments will be held Sunday, December 5th from 2-4:00 P.M. at First Lutheran in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be at a later date at Ponca City Cemetery. Merlin was born on August 23, 1944 in Ponca, NE to Emil and Margaret (Pearson) Olson. After high school he went on to graduate from Beauty School. He served in the United States Army before being honorable discharged. Merlin owned and operated his salon, Merlin’s Hair Magic in Morningside for many years. He also worked in the Sioux City public school food service for many years. He was actively involved in the Sioux City Community Theater, where he designed the sets, costumes, and directed and co-directed plays.
Those left to honor his memory include his siblings: Jon (Joanne) Olson, Dakota Dunes, SD, Kristine Bergstrom, Sgt. Bluff, IA, Kathy Anders, Sioux City, IA; several nieces and nephews; and “His Girls.”
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert and George Olson.
Memorials may be made to the New Stage Players Theater in South Sioux City.
