Michael A. Carey

April 13, 1951 — February 2, 2020

Michael Allen Carey, of Dakota City, passed away February 2, 2020, after an extended illness. A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 17, 2020 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Mike was born the son of Francis Donahoo and Dolores Clausen on April 13, 1951 in Sioux City.  He graduated from Bishop Heelan Catholic High School in 1969.  Mike married and raised his children in Sioux City and Shawnee, Kansas.

Mike retired from Laborers' Local Union 1290, and moved back to Siouxland to enjoy his grandkids, especially his fist-bumping bestie, Simon Tillman. In addition to keeping up with his large family, he enjoyed being outdoors, socializing with neighbors and watching sports, particularly the Super Bowl LIV Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Always the provider to those he cherished, his big heart also showed through his sarcastic humor and matter of fact ways. His wisdom and tenacity will live on through his children and grandchildren, who he loved fiercely.

Mike's strength and light will be lovingly remembered by his sister Stephanie Pruitt of Marysville, WA and his brother Mark (Lori) Carey of Omaha; daughters, Tina (Ken) McDonald of Spring Hill, KS, Pamela (Kevin) Holland of Spring Hill, KS, Jacqueline Donahoo of Sioux City, and Valerie McNaughton of South Sioux City; grandchildren, Kenneth (Sha'Na) McDonald II, Rhiannon Lentz, Dylan McDonald, Amber McDonald, Conor Holland, Riley Holland, Kaitlyn Holland, Promise Donahoo, Marcos Tapia, Eric Martinez, Olivia Garcia, Evelyn Carbajal, Ethan Carbajal, and Simon Tillman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Donahoo; mother and step-father, Harold and Dolores Carey; his sisters, Sharon Dileonardi and Michele White, and brother Gary Donahoo.
