Michael Allen Gunsch, 78 of Sioux City, Iowa, passed peacefully into heaven on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Central Baptist Church with Pastor Lloyd Grant officiating, followed by a luncheon. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 9:00 a.m. Thursday morning at the church. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel has assisted the family with arrangements.
Except for his college years, Mike was a lifelong resident of Sioux City, graduating from East High in 1964, ISU (Architecture) in 1969, and USD (MBA) in 1978. During and after college, he worked for Younglove Construction Company, initially as a construction engineer and finishing his long career there as president in 2014. Mike had been the last engineer hired directly by W.A. Klinger, a Sioux City icon. Younglove was a wholly owned subsidiary of W.A. Klinger Construction, the parent company at the time.
Mike is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Gay (Christiansen), and 3 sons: Chris (Alisa) of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Chad (Erica) of Eugene, Oregon; and Patrick (Claudia) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sisters Connie (Jeff) Chapman of Fernandina Beach, Florida and Donna (Bill) Bradbury of Sioux City; brothers Jim Gunsch of Sioux City and John Gunsch of Tuscon, Arizona.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents Roland and Mary (O’Brien) Gunsch and brother Tony Gunsch.
Mike was a longtime member of the Central Baptist Church and served on many community boards including St. Luke’s Health Systems (board president), SC Symphony, YMCA, Sunrise Retirement, Goodwill, and Kansas State University Grain Science advisory committee, among others.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Central Baptist Church, Samaritan’s Purse, or a charity of your choice.
