Michael S. Meredith, 35, of Sergeant Bluff died Wednesday, January 12th from suicide after suffering many years with alcoholism.
A celebration of life will be at 11:00 A.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family will be at 10:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Saint John’s Cemetery in Jackson, NE, followed by a luncheon at Providence Hall in Jackson, NE. Condolences may be sent online to meyerbroschapels.com.
Michael was born on December 5th, 1986, in Washington Township in New Jersey. He was the son of Eugene and Carol (Gill) Meredith. He grew up in Phoenix as well as Sioux City, attending Holy Family Grade School prior to graduating from high school in Minneapolis, MN. Michael attended Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN and received an associate degree in drafting from Northeast Community College in South Sioux City.
Michael was employed by Klinger Companies, specifically Gleeson Constructors & Engineers, as a Design Technician at the time of his death. His unique contributions to the company and his expertise with 3D design software were recognized by Klinger CEO, John Gleeson. Michael’s supervisor, Executive Vice-President, Ron Rens, commented that Michael helped Klinger take their design program to the next level as he played an instrumental role with several large projects and was an expert resource for their customers.
Michael was brilliant with his computers and software, the go-to family resource for technical issues, and he loved computer games. He was a voracious reader, master of random facts, and could answer any question you asked of him. Most of all, he loved his nieces and nephews and enjoyed choosing creative gifts for them.
Survivors include his long-time companion and fiancée: Lauren Lanning; his mother: Carol Meredith of Sergeant Bluff; sister: Nikki (Meredith) Young, and her husband, Craig, of Phoenix, AZ; brother: Chris Meredith, and his wife, Theresa, of Sergeant Bluff; sister: Shelby (Meredith) Dougherty, and husband, Andy, of Waukee, IA; maternal grandfather: John Gill; nephews: Colby Dahlen, Roman, Braxton, and Grayson Dougherty, and nieces: Mia Catsoules, Claire and Haley Meredith, and Charley Dougherty; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.
Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Kelly Jo Meredith, and maternal grandmother, Margaret Gill.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Meredith, Connor Lanning, Andy Dougherty, Ben Gill, Brendan Gill, and Michael Engel.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions in Michael’s name to Rosecrance Jackson Centers, or aid to local police departments for additional training in the management of mental health crisis situations.
