Michael Walter Reinking

Michael Walter Reinking, 70, of Sioux City, IA, passed away March 25, 2021 at his residence, of natural causes.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Visitation will be from 2-2:30 at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mike was born in Sioux City on October 29, 1950 to his parents, Jack and Maxine Reinking.  After graduating from Central High School in 1968, he attended the University of Iowa and the University of South Dakota.  Shortly thereafter he began his six-year service in the United States Air Force National Guard. 

He then began his career at Carlson Machine Company, a business founded by and named for his maternal Grandfather.  He spent most of his business life there, working beside his father for many years, before retiring as Managing Partner.

Mike had many interests.  He loved the mountains, often visiting a second home he maintained in Fairplay, Colorado.  He was a big sports fan, particularly of the NBA and college basketball.  He was an avid cyclist and was proud of his annual participation in RAGBRAI. 

Mike was varyingly described by his friends and relatives as a special person, a gentle soul, a loyal friend and neighbor and as being both fun and funny.  He was a wonderful son, grandson and brother.  He was “Uncle Mike” to his eight nieces and nephews and a life-long friend to his eleven cousins.  In recovery he enjoyed the support of a tremendous group of friends who provided him with physical support and spiritual guidance.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his sister, Jane Reinking of Pueblo, Colorado and his brother, John Reinking of Oak Park, California.   Mike will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
