Michael A. Stoos

Michael A. Stoos, 53, of Homer, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at MercyOne Siouxland Hospital from side effects of Covid-19. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. 

Michael was born the son of Nickolas and Ariel (Huffman) Stoos on January 31, 1967 in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended elementary school in Homer and graduated from Sioux City East High School and attended WIT obtaining his Associates Degree in Nursing. He had a special bond with his grandmother Leah (Beardshear) Hardy. Michael married Molly Voss Pierce on July 11, 2015 in Homer at his brother Joe (Jodi) Stoos's home during a ceremony conducted by his stepfather Jay Atkinson. Michael and Molly made their home on the acreage in Homer that his great grandparents built and where he had lived as a child.

Michael delivered the Sioux City Journal as a teen in Morningside, served in Army and worked at Gateway, ACS Computers. He also worked at Sunrise Retirement Community during nursing school, and after graduation, he spent nearly 10 years as a Registered Nurse at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center.

Michael enjoyed being Dungeon & Dragons Master at home and at the library as a teen. He enjoyed being outdoors and gardening, planting trees especially Black Walnut and fruit trees, remodeling or fixing things around the acreage and the business he had planned to open with his wife, Mike & Molly's Food, Fun, and Events in Homer. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and his cats. He was proud to have served the Homer community as an elected trustee, and most recently, Chairman of the Village board a position for which he was re-elected in November 2020.

Michael is survived by his wife, Molly Stoos of Homer; children, Kyle (Ariel) Stoos and Beth Dawsey both of Sioux City; stepdaughter, Annie (Luis Mora) Pierce of Sioux City and their son, Miles; mother Ariel (Jay Atkinson) Summerlin of El Sobrante, California; and brothers, Joe (Jodi) Stoos of Hubbard, NE and Ben Stoos of Sioux City and niece Kelsi Stoos (Zach Granato) Beatrice, NE. Aunts: Molly Hildebrand of Sioux City, Judy (Gary) Adams of Colfax, Iowa. Uncles: Terry (Nell) Huffman of Takota, Alaska. Frank (Renee) Stoos Sioux City, Iowa. Father-and mother-in-law Richard and Margaret Voss, Grandmother in-law Nancy Bianchini of South Sioux City, NE; brothers-in laws, Tony (Cassie Kempers) Voss and Tim Voss of Dakota City, NE; nephew-in-law, Chace Mohrhauser of Sioux City; and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Nickolas.
