Michael F. “Mike” Welte, 81, of Sioux City formerly of Danbury, IA passed away on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel (6200 Morningside Ave.) in Sioux City. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Michael F. “Mike” Welte, son of Gerald H. and Laura (Collins) Welte, was born December 4, 1939 in Danbury, IA. Mike grew up in Danbury and he attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1958. Mike worked at the family business Welte Vault Company in Danbury for several years.
On April 8, 1968, Mike was united in marriage to Judy Gunderson. They made their home in Sioux City. In 1986, he founded Superior Vault Company in Sioux City and continued operating it until he retired in 2009.
Mike enjoyed visiting with friends and his weekly trip to the casino.
Mike is survived by three siblings: Norma Jean Burrus of Sioux City, Mary Jo Person of Minneapolis, MN and Tim Welte (Robin) of Danbury; two sisters-in-law: Verna Welte of Sioux City and Pat Welte of Danbury; one brother-in-law, Richard Fritz of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Evelyn Ahlwardt (Lewis), Sarah Welte, Joyce Jackson (Russell), Kay Fritz, Dennis “Bing” Welte, Patrick Welte and Ed Welte.
