Michael J. "Mike" McGinty, 85, of Dakota Dunes, S.D. passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013 at a Sioux City hospital.Services will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.Mike was born in Sioux City, IA on August 14, 1928, the son of Joseph and Florence (Naughton) McGinty. He grew up and attended school in the Sioux City and South Sioux City area. After school, he helped his Dad on the farm. He was in the Naval Reserves. He married Dorothy Love on May 7, 1949 in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in South Sioux City. Mike drove a truck for Hirschbach Trucking before becoming owner and operator of his own over-the road trucking business.He enjoyed restoring antique cars.Survivors include his wife, Dorothy McGinty of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; children, Jim (Vanessa) McGinty of South Sioux City, NE, Mick (Kerry) McGinty of Gilbert, AZ, Sharon (Jim) Millard of New Bern, N.C. and son-in-law, Tim Robley of Dakota Dunes, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Jane Graves of South Sioux City, NE; and brother, Paul McGinty of South Sioux City, NE.Mike was preceded in death by his daughters, Jean McGinty and Judy Robley; and two brothers, Gerald and Joseph McGinty.
