Mildred Ilene Wendte, 88, of Newcastle, NE passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Elms Healthcare Center in Ponca. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, NE with Rev. Peter Speiser officiating. Burial will be in Silver Ridge Cemetery in rural Ponca. Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE.Mildred was born on April 14, 1927 in Ponca, NE, the daughter of Matthew and Ruth (Hall) Olander. She graduated from Newcastle Public School. She received her teaching certificate and taught school for several years. Mildred married Lyle Wendte on March 7, 1947 at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. The couple farmed before purchasing Lyle's Bar in Newcastle in 1949. She was a homemaker and helped in the family business.Mildred was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca and the Newcastle American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and having coffee with her friends.Survivors include her sons, David (Julee) Wendte of Ponca, NE and Kevin Wendte of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Sheryn Asher of Austin, TX, Peggy (Dave) Anderson of Ponca, NE, Pam (Kevin) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD and Cindy (Gregg) Doeden of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Dick Olander of Grand River, IA; sister, Marjean (Dave) Van Maanen of Sioux City, IA; and many nieces and nephews.Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents, Matthew and Ruth Olander; son, Thomas Lyle Wendte; brothers, Duane Olander and Daryl Olander; and sisters, Bonnie Hearns, Donna Sloan and Berniece Schulte.
