Mollie (Downhour) Vess, 83, of Wichita Falls, TX, formerly of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the University Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Glad Tidings Lighthouse in South Sioux City, NE with Rev. Michael Ring officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.Mollie was born on June 22, 1932 in Sioux City, IA, to Ervin Crippen and Hazel Jahnke. She was raised by her grandparents, Geeter and Rosella Jahnke. She attended South Sioux City School and was a long time resident of South Sioux City. Mollie married Merrill "Hoppy" Downhour on June 21, 1947 in South Sioux City, NE. Hoppy passed away on July 18, 1992. She married Larry Vess on November 2, 1993. Larry passed away on May 28, 2008. Mollie worked at Johnson Biscuit, The Corner Store, as a bus driver for South Sioux City Schools, and she also sold Avon for many years.She was a charter member of Glad Tidings Lighthouse, and for the past three years she was a member of Overcoming Word Praise Center in Wichita Falls, TX. She co-owned and sponsored "Hoppy's Angels" softball team. Mollie enjoyed spending time with family, church, helping others, softball games, dancing, music, bowling, and traveling.Survivors include her daughters, Carol (Denny) Campbell of South Sioux City, NE, Patty Bennett of Phoenix, AZ, Donna Cook of Wichita Falls, TX and Connie Ford of Omaha, NE; 12 grandchildren, Kirk (Angie) Campbell, T.J. "Todd" (Jessi) Campbell, Jeannie (Chuck) Juarez, Robert (Roxanne) Keller, Angel Cook, Molly (Dustin) Brewer, Jesse (Bri) Cook, Michelle Ford, Cherese (Gilberto) Watson, Niki (Nick) Bermel, Leah (Trevor) Norton, and Brent Ford; 39 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Gene, Douglas and Brian Crippen.Mollie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents; her husbands, Merrill Downhour and Larry Vess; brothers, Johnny DomBeck, Ronnie, Bob, Gary, David and Danny Crippen; and a grandson, Robbie.
