Noah E. Gwin, fondly known as "Sonny," passed away peacefully at his residence in Sioux City, IA, on March 11, 2025, at the age of 76. Noah, the son of Noah and Edna (Foust) Gwin, was born on February 12, 1949, in Omaha, NE. Noah embodied a spirit of resilience and love throughout his life, which spanned numerous states during his formative years due to his father's work. He graduated from South Sioux City High School. Noah made Sioux City his home for the past 56 years.
Noah was united in marriage to Adela Navarrete, his beloved wife, with whom he shared a partnership that flourished both personally and professionally. Together, they owned and operated Navarrete's Mexican Food, a venture that not only brought joy to their patrons but also strengthened their bond as a couple. The warmth of their family life extended through the couple's three children, enriching the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know them.
He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, with many recalling the joy he brought through his jokes. A devoted family man, Noah was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Noah's interests were varied; he had a profound love of horses and enjoyed hunting, often embracing his passion for western attire, which included a collection of over 30 cowboy hats.
Noah is survived by his cherished spouse, Adela Gwin; daughter, Laura (George) Johnson; son, Diego (Maiva) Gwin; daughter-in-law, Nichole Gwin; and five grandchildren, George Johnson, Alexis Johnson, Alex (Evelyn) Gwin, Zoey Gwin, and Rheia Gwin. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Khloe, Zurie, Isaiah, Ryker, and Ava, as well as several other relatives and many friends whose lives he touched with kindness and humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jason Gwin, and his sister, Joann.
A service celebrating Noah’s life will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church (4212 Gordon Dr.) in Sioux City. Visitation will start at 5 p.m.
