Norma P. Knerl, 86, of Ponca, NE passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, NE with Father David Liewer officiating. Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Online condolences may be sent at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Norma was born October 19, 1924 in rural Ponca, NE, the daughter of Fred and Mildred (Mabie) Curry. Following the death of her mother when Norma was 6 years old, she went to live with an aunt and uncle in Brookings, SD. She returned to Ponca her Junior year of high school and graduated from Ponca High School. She worked in a bank in California, prior to marrying Robert Knerl on July 2, 1946 in Van Nuys, California. The couple moved back to Ponca, where they lived the remainder of their lives.She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Altar Society. She served on the election board in Dixon County for many years.Survivors include one son, Mike and his wife, Linda Knerl of Lincoln, NE; three daughters, Connie and her husband, John Sievers of Clinton, IA, Chris and her husband, Keith DeHaan of Scottsdale, AZ, and Marty and her husband, Pat Knoell of New York, NY; two brothers, Russell and his wife, Carol Curry of Ponca, NE, and Bill Curry of Yuma, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob in 2007.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, IA.
