Norman J Ping

Norman J. Ping, 85, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 at a local hospital. Per his wish’s cremation has taken place, there will be no services. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements. Online condolences can be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

He was born on February 1, 1935 to Floyd and Henrietta Ping. He lived in Sioux City his entire life. His siblings were Shirley, Roberta, and Anita.

He spent many days as a young boy commercial fishing, farming, and hunting with his father. Norman graduated from Central High School in 1953. He joined the Army, where he was assigned as a driver in the officer motor pool in Germany. He was able to see much of Europe as part of this assignment.

Norman joined the Sioux City fire department in 1960 and retired in 1993. He married Virginia Wingfield in September 1960. She had 6 boys when they got married; Jack Holloway, Doug (wife Lauri), Tim (wife Vikki), Tom (wife Deanna), Jim, and Randy Jacobs. They had 2 children together; Jennifer (husband Rob and Perry (wife Carolyn). Virginia died in in 2001.

Norman married Myrna Stading in 2008. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved nature, animals, and the outdoors. He collected decoys and fishing lures and became a wood carver of waterfowl later in life. He lived a full life and will be missed.
