Patricia Ann Slaughter

June 20, 1941 – December 17, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pat Slaughter, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished community member, who peacefully left us on December 17, 2024, at the age of 83.

A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held at Morningside Lutheran Church, 700 S. Martha St, Sioux City, Iowa, at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 20, 2024. Visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in the Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Nebraska.

Pat was a long-term resident of South Sioux City, Nebraska, where she touched countless lives with her philanthropy, humor and unwavering commitment to her family and community.

Born on June 20, 1941, Pat was known for her infectious laughter and warm spirit, which made her a cherished figure to all who knew her. She was the proud matriarch of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her legacy of kindness and strength will live on through them.

Pat’s devotion to her community was boundless. She spent many years volunteering on the local school board, working to improve the educational experience for students in her area, and improving her own educational experience by going back and earning her Masters in Social Work from UNO. Her passion for giving back to the community was also evident in her establishment of memorial scholarships for South Sioux City High School students, a gift that continues to help the students pursue their dreams.

A woman of immense generosity, Pat always found ways to support those around her, whether it was lending a helping hand or sharing a laugh during tough times. Her ability to make everyone feel seen and appreciated was one of her greatest gifts.

Pat’s wit and sense of humor were legendary. She had a unique ability to find joy in the smallest moments and made everyone around her smile. Her laughter was truly contagious, and she leaves behind a legacy of joy that will not soon be forgotten.

Pat is survived by her children, Shelly (Bob) Kuhl and Shane (Diane) Slaughter, grandchildren Kayla (Daniel) McMullen, Jenna Kuhl (Owen Martin), Shaye Slaughter, Samantha (Austin) Goehring and Blair Slaughter, great-grandchildren Norah McMullen, Gia McMullen and Margo Martin, sister Connie (Bernie) Heier and niece Tiffany (Donnie) Heier Breit.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry, and her father and mother, Carroll (Red) and Winona Ketelhut.

Pat’s memory will live on in the laughter she brought into our lives and the generous spirit that touched us all. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten
