Patricia "Patty" Lou Heald

February 28, 1947 — July 14, 2021

Patricia (Patty) Lou Heald was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She died peacefully July 14, 2021 at age 74 after a brief battle with cancer.   Patty was born to Willy and Lucille Peterson on February 28, 1947 in Sioux City, IA. After graduating from Sioux City Central High School in 1964, Patty married Darrel Heald and moved to Ponca, NE, where she spent the rest of her full life. 

Patty enjoyed most of her adult life living on a farm in near Ponca, where she and her husband raised their two children.  She was involved in a number of her children’s activities including as 4-H Club leader. Patty enjoyed showing her horses and dogs at various venues in the Midwest. Patty was also a volunteer for Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School, Inc. (STARS).  Patty enjoyed working at Cook’s Country Store and as a wrangler at Ponca State Park.  Later in life, Patty’s grandchildren were a big part of her life and she continued to be involved in her church, community, gardening, caring for the animals at the farm, and sewing. 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Willy and Lucille, and her two brothers, Terry and Ronny.  Survivors include her husband Darrel (Ponca, NE), two children, Chris (Carrie) Heald of Lake Forest, CA, and Chuck (Stacy) Heald of Hubbard, NE, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Heald of Broomfield, CO and her grandson Zachary Heald of Hubbard, NE.

Private services and burial were held at the Ponca Cemetery in Ponca, NE. The family wishes to thank those who have extended medical and emotional support to Patty during her final days.  Mohr Funeral Home of Ponca assisted the family.
