Patrick “Pat” Melvin Bennett, 74, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away in his home on March 5, 2025. Pat was born on June 2, 1950 to Melvin and Ellen “Nellie” Bennett in New Castle, NE. He grew up in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Leeds High School in 1969, where he went to state in track and basketball.

Pat enjoyed hunting and fishing, particularly his trips charter fishing in Lake Erie, ice fishing, and halibut and salmon fishing in Alaska, spending time with family and friends, and being an active member of The Boys of ‘68. He spent several years coaching his sons and other youth sports, playing basketball and slow-pitch softball, and umpiring, which included the USSSA Men’s Major World Series in North Carolina. Pat also loved watching Westerns on TV and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees, and Oklahoma Sooners.

His career included the following: delivering for Sioux City Bakery, Missouri Valley Steel, Cargill, Holtz Construction, Dupaco/Flavorland in LeMars, managing Art World silk screen printing business, and retired from Chestermans in Sioux City.

Pat is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 18 years, Sharon Hillegas-Bennett and the proud and loving father to Paxton Bennett (Tiffany) of West Des Moines, IA and Brent Bennett (Lynn) of Pierson, IA of which he had with his first wife, Kris Haney Weber (married 1973-1997); stepchildren, Jamie Jenkinson and Adam Jenkinson of Arkansas; siblings, Frank Bennett and Ellen Wiedeman; and numerous friends, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sheila Meyers; mother-in-law, Marley Haney; father-in-law, Robert Haney; niece, Rochelle Wiedeman; nephew, Jason Luettgen; and aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 14 at 2:00pm Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City, IA 51104 with a prayer service at 3:00. Friends and family are invited to a casual Celebration of Life gathering 5:00 at Steinbeck’s Pub, 3929 Floyd Blvd., Sioux City. Burial of ashes will be at a later date.
