Peggy Jean (Hansen) Christensen, 85, of Ponca, NE passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, NE while surrounded by her loved ones.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE with Deacon Ron Pietz officiating. Burial will be in Silver Ridge Cemetery near Ponca. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Online condolences to the family may be posted at www.mohrfuneralhome.com.Peggy was born on December 7, 1927 to Raymond and Marie (Daniel-Needham) Hansen at home in Bloomfield, NE. She was baptized at Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ponca. She attended school in Bloomfield. After attending school, she worked at the Nebraska Telephone Company in Ponca and was a postal employee for the United States Postal Service for many years. She worked at Atokad Race Park because she loved horse racing and owned race horses. She had a winning horse named "Jeff's Bold Song" that took first place. She enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales. Peggy was an excellent cook.On January 20, 1944, Peggy was united in marriage to Tally Marvin of Bloomfield in Lincoln, NE. This union was blessed with four children. They lived in Bloomfield and Ponca. Tally passed away on November 4, 1969. They celebrated 25 years together. On May 15, 1976, she married James Neal Christensen. They lived in Bloomfield until he passed away on November 3, 2006.Survivors include three children, Phillip Marvin and his wife, Kathleen, of Onawa, IA, Gene Marvin and his wife, Dawnn, of Sioux City, IA, and Mary Philo and her husband, John, of Bend, OR; son-in-law, Gary Bennett of Ponca, NE; grandchildren, Michelle, Molly, Brent, Jamie, Blane, Lindsey and Mike; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Ramon and Donna Hansen, Raymond and Linda Hansen and Norvin and Janet Hansen; one sister and her husband, Lael and Tim Greenlee; and sisters-in-law, June Hansen and Karla Lemberg.Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Tally; her second husband, Neal; daughter, Joanne (Marvin) Bennett; grandson, Jeffrey Marvin; and three brothers, Gary, James and Keith.In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to Hospice of Siouxland or the American Cancer Society.
