Phillip Richard Borschuk, 89, of Sioux City passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, November 13, 2020. No services are planned at this time.
Phil was born on November 8, 1931 in Sioux City to Mike and Elizabeth (Humza) Borschuk. He graduated from Central High School and was crowned homecoming king. He married the love of his life, Ida May McGinty, on June 1, 1956. They celebrated 56+ years together. He played basketball and fast-pitch soft ball. He continued his softball career for years and played for Bellas Hess, Soo City Soos, Coors Light, and Wingmans at Hubbard Park. He pitched a perfect game at the age of 51. Phil was drafted and served in the Korean War. He worked at DW Verstigens and Verzani Printing until he retired.
Phil was a hard-working, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed playing cards at the table, watching westerns and sports, and fixing things around the house.
Phillip is survived by his beautiful daughters Gina Swanson, Lisa (Curt) Johme, Jill (Chad) Coyle, all of Sioux City; he was blessed with eight grandchildren, Shannon Johme, Ryan Lieske, Ashley (Eric Bishop) Johme, Amber Johme, Sydney Swanson, Connor Coyle, McKenzie Coyle, Jack Coyle; great-grandchildren Andre Thomas, Wyatt and Blake Bishop, and Aiyanna Johme.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers and sisters Mike Borschuk, Mary Yakubowsky, Alice Wecker, Betsy Tapper, and Jerry Borchuk.
