Phyllis G. Chambers, 90 of Homer, NE passed away on Thursday February 13, 2020 at her residence Heritage Retirement home in Emerson, NE. A funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Chapel in South Sioux City. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home. Family burial will be Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Omaha Valley Cemetery in Homer.
Phyllis was born September 15, 1929 at Wakefield, NE, the daughter of Eldred and Myrtle (Herfel) Smith. Phyllis graduated from Dixon High School in 1947 and went on to complete one year of college at Wayne. Phyllis married Merlin Chambers on December 26, 1948 in Dixon, NE. They settled on the Chambers farm near Homer, where they were blessed with a son and a daughter.
Phyllis was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the Choir, she served on the Church board, taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was H.P.D President. She was U.M.W President and District officer. She was active for many years in the Eastern Star.
Phyllis took pride in being a homemaker; she loved her family. She loved to bake, needlepoint, read, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and all kinds of crafts. She and her husband Merlin loved getting together with friends and playing cards.
Survivors include her children: Kevin Chambers & friend Debbie, and Leigh Anne Chambers and her wife Robin Bates; two grandsons: Justen R. Chambers and Ryan J. Chambers; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Eldred and Myrtle Smith, and her husband, Merlin Chambers.
