Randall D. "Randy" Harrison

January 10, 1942 — July 1, 2021

Randy D. Harrison, 79, of Hinton, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021 at a Sioux City Care Facility, after a several year illness. 

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 9, 2021 at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel.  Online condolences may be given www.meyerbroschapels.com.  Those wishing to send memorials may do so in care of the funeral home. 

Randall Dean Harrison was born January 10, 1942 to Dean Olivier and Evelyn Louise (Anderson) Harrison.  He was raised in Hinton, Iowa, where his family was one the first settlers of Plymouth County in 1856.  Many family businesses he had the run of in town: his great grandmother’s winter operated; Winter’s Store and his great grandmother Harrison operated the telephone company.  Randy was baptized and confirmed in the Hinton United Methodist Church and attended school in Hinton.

At the age of 15, he painted the Farmer Co-op Elevators, he was going to have a car the minute he turned 16; a 1956 Ford two door sedan he purchased at once.  Randy was passionate and disciplined in his interests:  weight lifting and gardening were life long interests.  He worked at Tyson Fresh Meats for 40 years, retiring in 2017, as an inspector.

He was loyal to his family and friends and took care of every stray cat and found stray dogs homes.  He loved taking his granddaughter to the Omaha Zoo and made sure she had books and educational games and toys to take home.

Randy is survived by his daughter Dawn Harrison (Rob Sorgdrager) and their daughter:  Courtney (Andrew) Johnson and their son, Leo Robert, all of Le Mars; his son Brad Patton and his daughter Bailey Hampton and her son C.J. all of Spokane, WA; and son Rich (Michelle) Harrison of Sioux City, IA; his sister Candi Herbst; his nephew Justin Herbst, and a niece Noel Herbst all of Merrill, IA; and his uncle Miles Patton II of Sioux City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Leon Herbst, and his good friend and neighbor, Steve Ashley.
