Ray L. Schleusener

Ray L. Schleusener passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 30, 2024 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, September 29, 2024 with a prayer service at 4:00 P.M. at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery. 

Ray was born to Art and Alyce (Kai) Schleusener on October 6, 1952. He was raised 8 miles north of West Point, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE and went to rural school, District 28 the first 8 years and then graduated from West Point High School. Ray worked at numerous jobs in the West Point area then in 1974 started work at IBP and moved to Sioux City in 1975. Ray married Colleen (Skow) Hingst on April 17, 1982. She had two children, Michael and Heidi Hingst. Holly Schleusener was born on September 14, 1983. Ray worked at IBP, Iam’s Pet Foods and numerous other jobs, with Stream Call Center being his last. He retired in July of 2014.

He was past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Sioux City #77 and was a charter member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #3623 in West Point. He was a member of Sioux City #77 Eagle Jokers clown unit and active with parades and going to nursing homes to entertain the residents. He was Chairman of Farm Products at Dakota-Thurston County Fair for over twenty years and a member of First Lutheran Church, South Sioux City, where he served on the church council as well. After retirement, Ray was active with the food bank at church and also baked cookies to help, anywhere from 4 to 8 batches a month. 

He enjoyed gardening and yard work as well as cooking. Was a collector of beer cans, signs and steins. He loved the Holidays and decorated inside as well as out. Halloween was his favorite because it wasn’t cold putting them up. He also enjoyed sitting on deck having a cold one, sitting in the pool, and spending time with the kids and grandkids. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Colleen; daughters, Heidi (Scott) and Holly; grandkids, Ashley (Jason) Ogden, Tim Asfeld, Rachel Asfeld, William Kolleck, Sam Asfeld, Alexander Kolleck, Noah Kolleck, and Lincoln Schleusener; and great grandchildren, Koi, Jacob, Keaton and Jordon Ogden. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Duane; uncle, Dennis Schleusener; stepson, Michael Hingst; daughter-in-law, Lori Hingst; nephew; Cletis Wilke; and granddaughter, Mackenzie Kolleck.
