Raymond Dean Husk, 89, of Ponca, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at a Sioux City hospital.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at United Methodist Church in Ponca, Nebraska with Pastor Sheila Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Maskell Cemetery in Maskell, Nebraska with military rites conducted by the Ponca American Post 117 and the Norfolk National Guard. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.Raymond was born December 18, 1921 in Luton, Iowa, the son of Heman and Minnie (Barton) Husk. He married Verdelle Whitsett in Sioux City, Iowa on June 23, 1945. He was a W.W. II veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force. He earned the good conduct medal, was in the European Theatre campaign, earned a ribbon with 5 campaign stars, and was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He worked in produce, farming, state maintenance for 10 years, was the Ponca City Supt. for 16 years and the Mayor of the City of Ponca for 4 years. He also worked as caretaker of Pioneer Square apartments and as a security guard.He was a member of the Ponca American Legion Post #117, V.F.W., the United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Men.He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family.Survivors include his wife, Verdelle of Ponca, NE; daughters, Judy (Richard) Schindler of Troy, MO and Janice (Raymond) Padel of Junction City, KS; 7 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; brother, Carl Husk of Westfield, IA; and many nieces and nephews.Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence, Leonard, Henry, Heman, Ronald & Willard Husk and Robert Watts; sisters, Elda Loraine & Maryetta Husk and Viola Trout; and infant great-grandson, Michael Himmelseach.
