Renee was the youngest child born June 21, 1958, to Dwilda (Montagne) Kovarna and Lester (Bud) Kovarna. Proud of her Kovarna background, she graduated from Hinton Community High School and worked at Terra Chemical, C.W. Suter Services, and Ruhland Nurseries. She married Craig Thoreson in 1988 and assisted with the farm work, especially by driving the grain cart.

Her strength and love shined brightest in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Known for her infectious spirit and ability to bring people together, Renee never missed an opportunity to enjoy life's simple pleasures. She had a passion for cooking, attending many NCAA basketball games, and hosting family gatherings. Renee’s happy place was being in Yankton at her cabin with her family and friends. She adored her grandchildren who brought her great joy. She was always the life of the party and such a bright light.

Renee is survived by her husband Craig Thoreson; son Travis Boetger and his wife, Betsy; two daughters Kelsie Carlson and her husband Chad and Mallory Miller and her husband Cole; five grandkids Easton, Briggs, Palmer, Maxlie, and Lucas, all of Hinton, Iowa; and her brother Gary Kovarna and wife Diane.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Caren Kounkel, brother Dale Kovarna and her in-laws, Margaret “Peggy” and Gerald Thoreson.

She will be deeply missed, but forever remembered. The family is grateful for all the support and kindness from friends and family.
