Rev. David H. Carlson, 64, of Sioux City, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 4, 2020.
A private burial was held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Floyd Cemetery, Sioux City, IA. Due to Covid-19 there will be a Memorial Service at a later date this year. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
David was born on May 11, 1955 in Sioux City, IA, the son of Gordon and Lennice (McClintock) Carlson. He grew up in Sioux City and graduated from North High School in 1973. He received his bachelor’s degree from Morningside in 1977 and graduated in 1983 from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH. In 1983 David received his 1st call to the Eastern North Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Serving churches in Lidgerwood, Hankinson, Fargo, Verona, and Fort Ransom.
On May 13, 1989, David was united in marriage to Lori L. Dahlen in Fargo, ND. Lori preceded David in death on August 26, 2010. To this union, two children were born, Anne Elizabeth in June of 1992 and Paul Harold in February of 1994.
David returned to Sioux City in the Fall of 2012. He was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church. He served as a Pulpit Supply Minister for many Churches in the Siouxland area, member of the Siouxland Nordic Chorus, Board of Directors of Castle on the Hill, and an avid Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and East High Black Raiders sports fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Paul H. Carlson of St. Louis Park, MN, his mother Lennice Carlson of Sioux City, IA; his much much much much much younger brother Paul W. (Julie) Carlson of Sioux City, IA, his mother-in-law Donna Dahlen of Luverne, MN, sister-in-laws Nancy Dahlen, Kariann Sanny of Brooklyn Center, MN, Angie Martin of Northfield, MN, Elsa (Stephen) Nitz of Rosemount, MN and Elaine (Timothy) Hall of Sioux Falls, SD. David is also survived by several nieces and nephews, numerous friends, and his beloved cat Benny Jr.
David was preceded in death by his wife Lori L. Carlson, daughter Anne E. Carlson, father Gordon H. Carlson, father-in-law Art Dahlen, and brother-in-law Dave Sanny.
