Richard "Dick" Dahl, 78 of Waterbury, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, Nebraska. Burial will be at Calvary at South Creek Cemetery at a later date. He was proud to be a descendant of one of the first homesteader families in Dixon County, the O'Connor's, including Edward and Nellie (Tracy) O'Connor and their children, Rollie, Billy, Mary, Margaret, Aileen and Helen. He was raised in Ponca and graduated from Ponca High School in 1949. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Charlotte Webster May 6, 1963 in The Little Brown Church in Elkrader, Iowa. They lived in the Ponca area. Charlotte passed away January 11, 1997.Dick was an over the road truck driver and worked for Brower Asphalt and Petit Construction.He was a member of the Newcastle Laurence Lofgren American Legion Post #62. He enjoyed playing cards.Survivors include six children, a daughter, Lori from San Francisco, California, Connie and Randy Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Dennis Dahl of Andrew, Iowa, John and Emily Dahl of Waterloo, Iowa, Michael Dahl of Ponca and Shane Dahl and partner, Cris Rieder of Ponca; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; first cousin, Phyllis Jensen of Ponca; and other descendents of the O'Connor family, including the Don Conrad family, with a special thanks to Monte Conrad for his help in Dick's final years of life.
