Richard “Dick” L. McCormick, 78, of Dakota City, NE, passed away surrounded by his family on August 9, 2022. A funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson, NE. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at church, with a rosary beginning at 9:45 a.m. Burial will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Verdigre, NE. Dick was born on August 24, 1943 in Bloomfield, NE to Alonzo and Elsie (Vech) McCormick. After high school he moved to Sioux City where he worked at a packing house. He also was self-employed in the logging business. Dick then began his career at Holtz as a construction supervisor. He came from a long line of carpenters, even building his own house. Dick also did lots of carpentry work around Siouxland, including working on: The railroad bridge, Holy Spirit Retirement Home, Queen of Peace, and the St. Michael’s Adoration Chapel. He was drafted into the United States Army and was later honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Janet Brogren on August 10, 1968 in South Sioux City, NE. Together they enjoyed family summer vacations playing sand volleyball at the Niobrara River. Dick was a devoted Catholic and was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Jan McCormick, Dakota City, NE; sons: Mark and Joel McCormick, both of Dakota City, NE; daughter, Sara (Anthony) Warnke, Custer, SD; grandchildren: Elyse and Paul; great-granddaughter, Nora; sisters: Margaret Croxen and Judy (Tim) Clausen, all of South Sioux City, NE; sister-in-law’s: Doris and Niann McCormick.
He is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Beth; sister, Diane McCormick; brothers: Phillip and Michael McCormick; and brother-in-law, Gary Croxen.
