To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under Heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3

The obituary of Richard (Dick) Schlitter

A Time to be Born:

Richard Willis Schlitter was born September 29, 1937 to Hazel and Willis Schlitter.  He was the oldest of three children, followed by Daniel (Susan) Schlitter and Jane (Obert) Schlitter Johnson.

A Time to Die:

Dick passed away on Tuesday April 20, 2021 in Onawa Iowa after a life well-lived and loved.  He survived numerous surgeries and maladies, and only succumbed when God lifted him out of his worldly body to supply him with a perfectly healed body.

A Time to Love:

Dick married the love of his life, Dorothy Ann Selberg on January 25, 1959. It was winter break of their senior year of college.  The wedding took place at the Zion Reformed Church in Waukon, Iowa.  Their marriage lasted over 62 blessed years.

A Time to Plant:

Dick was the Elementary School Principal in the Audubon School System from 1961 to 1967.  From 1967 until his retirement in 2005 he was the Elementary Principal at the West Monona Schools in Onawa, Iowa.  Throughout these years he planted encouragement, humor, educational growth, recess football, fun, allegiance to God and admonitions to be faithful Green Bay Packer fans.  He painted pictures in oil on canvas and roofing slates. But his specialty was cartooning, often given as gifts.  In retirement he served as a volunteer at Burgess Health Center as a driver and a tour guide for the Loess Hills in Turin Iowa.

A Time to Build up:

Dick and Dorothy had three wonderful children: Todd (Beth) Schlitter, Leigh (Dave) VanDoornik, and Kirk (Janie) Schlitter.

A time to Gather Stones:

Dick was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren: Emily (Brian) Grayson, Matthew Schlitter; Devin (Andrew) Bosma, McKenna VanDoornik, Jaiden VanDoornik; Bryan Schlitter, Cassidy Schlitter, Aiden Schlitter;  Kyle Bubb, Melissa Bubb.  He also had two great grandchildren, Landon Bubb-Bergquist and Brynlee Bosma.

A Time to Laugh and Embrace and a time to Mourn:
