Richard Allen "Dick" Durant

Richard Allen “Dick” Durant, 82 of South Sioux City passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at a local care facility following a two and a half year battle with cancer.   Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City. Rev. Douglas Dill will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 until 10:30 A.M. Saturday at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.becker-hunt@siouxlan.net.   Dick was born June 25, 1936 in Bloomfield, NE; he was the son of Harold and Emma (Wenke) Durant. The family later moved to Allen, NE where he graduated in 1954. He was active in football and basketball and played the tuba in the band. He attended Wayne State College graduating in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961 and was stationed in Munich, Germany.   Following his discharge, Dick returned to Siouxland where he worked at various places including Swift & Co. and Sioux Tools. He retired in 2000.   On June 9, 1963, Dick married Janice Schuttler at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, NE. They were the parents of five children. Dick was a 54 year member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family.   Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Janice of South Sioux City; his children: Jill O’Rear and her husband James of Dayton, OH, Tom Durant and his wife Jennifer of South Sioux City, Ted Durant of Lincoln, NE, Tony Durant and his wife Wendy of McKinney, TX, Kerri Durant (Randy Rahn) of South Sioux City, NE; eleven grandchildren: David (Kelly), Zachary, Jordan, Hannah and Emmalea O’Rear; Celeste, Brett (Bailey Lynn), and Adam Durant; Joshua, Alison and Nathan Durant; one great granddaughter Ava and one on the way; a brother Dale Durant (LuAnn) and a sister Jean Wilcox (Mike) and several nieces and nephews; sisters and brothers in law Althea Gilbertson (Jim), Marlin Schuttler (Nila), Dwaine Schuttler, Kathy Hamilton (Alexander) and Marlene Durant.   Dick was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Don, his parents in law: Rudolph and Jonetta Schuttler and a sister in law, Sharon Schuttler.
