Richard “Dick” M. Erickson, 81 of Dakota City passed away Monday, March 10, 2025. A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the Evangelical Free Church in Ponca.
Dick was born the son of H. Myron and Helen (Weher) Erickson on April 29, 1943 in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Benson High School. Dick married Sherry Heck on October 2, 1964. They lived many places throughout the West due to Dick’s irrigation career. They returned to Nebraska in 1984.
Dick was an irrigation foreman for many years. He also farmed, drove truck, and served as the Rock and Dakota County Assessor in his career.
Dick loved being outdoors hunting and fishing. He also liked playing cards and arguing about Husker football. In his younger years he raced motorcycles and go carts. He volunteered at Awesome Biker Nights in Sioux City for several years. Dick enjoyed cooking and barbequing for people. He would feed any crowd from dog show volunteers and judges to family groups tubing down the Niobrara River.
Dick had a passion for youth throughout his life. He volunteered to take youth groups to activities such as roller skating. In his retirement years, he and Sherry fostered several youths.
Dick is survived by his wife, Sherry Erickson; son, Shawn (Diana) Erickson and daughter, Dawn (Scott) Sybrant; and grandchildren, Dean and Rachel Erickson and Courtney (Martin) Gonzalez.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
