Richard Paul Pennington, 75, of Hinton, IA, passed away May 1st, 2022 at a local care facility. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 16th at 11:00 AM at Southern Hills Baptist Church with the family present. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Albert City Cemetery in Albert City, IA. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Richard was born on April 24, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN to Paul and Mary Jane (Borg) Pennington. He graduated high school from Stanton, NE in 1965. Starting in 1966, he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and received an honorable discharge December 2, 1969. He completed his Bachelor of Science at Buena Vista College in 1974 with majors in physics and math. He moved to the Sioux City area in 1977. He completed his Master of Computer Science through the University of Phoenix in 2002. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Lundquist on December 27, 1969 in Albert City, IA. He worked for MidAmerican Energy for almost 32 years as Computer Systems Design Analyst. He enjoyed growing fruit in his small orchard, playing harmonica and violin, singing in Gospel quartets, swimming, painting, and woodworking. He was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church where he taught a Sunday School class. He had a passion for evangelism and was a former Gideon. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Phyllis Pennington, Hinton, IA; sons: Rev. Dr. Jon and Alana Pennington, Chicago, IL; Drs. Justin and Rebecca Pennington, Branchburg, NJ; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Caleb, Hannah, Rachel, Nathaniel, Silas, and Alice; and siblings: Steve and Christine Pennington, and Deborah Demello; as well nieces, nephews, and many other family members and in-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, two sisters Meredith Johnston and Kate Lukes, and various other family members and in-laws. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International or Southern Hills Baptist Church.
