Richard Evan Ragan, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at a local hospital. 

A funeral service celebrating Dick's life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Dick was born on September 26, 1949, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Donald Sr. and Jean (Spindler) Ragan. He was dedicated to serving his community, first through his work at the Boys Club, followed by a distinguished 24-year career as a firefighter. He retired from the fire department in 2008. Richard was also a veteran of the Iowa National Guard, reflecting commitment to service and duty. 

Richard's family and friends will remember him for his many interests and passions. He enjoyed improving and beautifying his home, riding motorcycles, spending time with his grandson Austin, and traveling. A devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, Richard also loved golfing in his leisure time. He volunteered his time as an adult leader in Boy Scout Troop 111. His son and grandson are Eagle Scouts, and he mentored other scouts that attained that rank. 

Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carol Ragan; son Paul (Stefanie) Ragan of North Liberty, IA; daughter Ann (Ron) Howard of Sioux City; grandson Austin Sokolowski of Vermillion, SD; granddaughter Haley Howard of Bellevue, NE; brothers Don Jr. (Jody) Ragan of Paxton, IL, and Bob (Theresa) Ragan of Sioux City; and brother-in-law Bob (Deb) Livermore of North Sioux City, and several nieces and nephews. 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Sr. and Jean Ragan, in-laws Wayne and LorRayne Livermore.
