Richard Floyd Fulton, affectionately known as Rich, passed away on December 2, 2024, at Kingsley Specialty Care in Kingsley, Iowa, at the age of 85. Born on September 14, 1939, in Sioux City, Iowa, Rich was one of nine children in the family of Floyd and Mayme (Fields) Fulton. He grew up in Sioux City, a place that held a special significance in his life.
Rich embarked on his working journey as a teenager. For several years, he was a truck driver for various companies. His career was marked by a dedicated 25 years with the Sioux City Community School System. Alongside his primary job, Rich participated in various part-time roles, showcasing his hard work and commitment.
Rich was united in marriage to Irene Rodman on December 21, 1963, in Sioux City, Iowa. They were blessed with one daughter, Jennifer. Irene passed away unexpectedly in June of 1991.
Known for his laid-back and easy-going demeanor, Rich had a gift for conversation. He was talkative and a skilled storyteller, enriching the lives of those around him with tales filled with laughter and wisdom. His interests extended beyond work; he had a particular passion for trains and dedicated time to creating his own model train layout. Additionally, Rich was an avid collector of Atlases and maps.
Rich is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Fulton; one brother, Larry (Louise) Fulton; and three sisters: Marlyne Robinson, Patricia Van Skyock, and Cathlyn (William) Lovsmith. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Cornelia Fulton and Judy Carpenter, along with several nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Irene, and two sisters, Alyce and Beverly. Also mourning his loss are two brothers, Otho and David, who have passed before him.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
