Richard Warren “Dick” Aspleaf, 75, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022 at a local hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Nativity Catholic Church. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. with a Rosary Service at 5:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Dick was born February 6, 1947, the son of Clyde and Dorothy (Adcock) Aspleaf. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1965. Dick enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 1965 and served for four years, being honorably discharged in 1969. Dick married Mary Margaret “Maggie” Wigton of October 15, 1977 in Sioux City.
After returning from the Navy, where he was a cook, Dick worked as a baker for some time and as a machinist for Sioux Tools. He started his career with the United States Post Office in the 1981 and retired as a Postal Supervisor in 2013. Dick’s passion and favorite activity was fishing. He looked forward to the yearly family fishing trips to Big Stone Lake, along with countless other trips. In his younger years, he was a member of the Tryhedron Bow Hunters and enjoyed hunting. Dick loved his family and was especially proud of his son and his beloved grandchildren. He was a member of Nativity Catholic Church for 45 years.
Survivors include his wife Maggie Aspleaf of Sioux City; son: Ryan and wife Katie Aspleaf of Sioux City; and grandchildren: Brianna Aspleaf and Corben Aspleaf.
He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Dorothy Aspleaf, brother Dennis Aspleaf in October of 2020, sister-in-law Linda Aspleaf, and nephew Dennis Aspleaf.
