Robert "Bob/Bobby" Hirsch Sr of rural Dakota City passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 16, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at St Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, NE with Father David Liewer and Father Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will follow at St Michael's Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m., with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Bob was born June 3, 1961 in Sioux City, Iowa the sixth son of Robert Ray and Mary (Frank) Hirsch. The family lived on Crystal Lake. He attended Homer school and graduated in 1979. Throughout high school he worked at Edwards IGA in South Sioux City. After graduation Bob was the first and long-time manager of the Casey's General Store in Dakota City. Bob was also involved in the ownership of several businesses, including RJ Cellular and Four Star Convenience before becoming employed as a production manager for Mobren Biological, where he worked until his passing. On July 6, 1985 Bob married Annette Miller at St Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City. They had two children Bobby (BJ), and Bethany.Bob was very active in the South Sioux City community. He was a member of the Father Tracey Council of the Knights of Columbus, and served as the Grand Knight during the 1990s. He was a member of the South Sioux City Chamber of Commerce, and a chamber ambassador for many years. He was also a charter member of the South Sioux City Moose Lodge, and a proud member of the National Rifle Association. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time spent in the summer with family and friends on Long Lake at St James, Minnesota. Family was important to Bob. The Memorial Day fishing trip and Saturday morning coffee at HyVee with his brothers were special times, along with Thanksgiving with the Millers and Christmas with the Hirschs. His love of movie theater popcorn and ice cream are particularly remembered. Bob's quick wit and teasing nature endeared him to many. He was a good friend, and will be greatly missed. Bob is survived by his wife Annette of rural Dakota City, Nebraska, son Bobby (BJ) of Hubbard, Nebraska, daughter Bethany of Lincoln, Nebraska, and his dog and special buddy, Molly. Others include his mother Mary, brothers Terry (Lynde), Steve (Donna), Ron (Donna), Don (Kathy), Rick (Maryann), Brian (Kim), and sisters Kathy Zimmerman, Susie (Roland) Criss, Tina (Mike) Grudzinski, and Toni Ziehmer along with dozens of nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father Robert. Pallbearers will be Randy Aamot, Steve Corbin, Don Kunzie, Mark Nylen, Mike Wilmes, and Mike Wojcik. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob's Mobren friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the June E Nylen Cancer Center.
