It is with great sadness that the family of Robert H. (Bob) Jager (88) of South Sioux City, Nebraska, announce his passing on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, following a long struggle with dementia.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 7th, 2025 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, Iowa, with Reverend Michael Awe from Hope Lutheran Church of South Sioux City, Nebraska, officiating. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the funeral service. A luncheon will be served immediately after the service with the burial to follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, Nebraska.
Bob was born on the family farm in Emerson, Nebraska, to Herman and Elizabeth (Fey) Jager on March 27th, 1936. Bob lived a life characterized by hard work, family devotion, and community service. He attended Emerson schools, where the foundation of his character and values was established. Bob honorably served in the United States Army as part of the U.S. Army’s Old Guard. In that role, Bob had the distinction of being a mounted horse rider while assigned to the Honor Guard for the Caisson Platoon at Arlington National Cemetery.
Following his military service, Bob returned to his roots in farming and dedicated himself to various occupations, including as an electrician and truck driver; each role exemplifying his strong work ethic and commitment to serving others. Bob married Josephine Martens on June 3, 1956 in Sioux City, spending more than 54 years together before her passing in 2011.
Throughout his life, Bob cultivated a deep appreciation for hobbies such as riding his Harley- Davidson and fishing; each providing him with joy and relaxation. He cherished the time spent with family making memories that will be fondly remembered by those he leaves behind.
Bob is survived by his children: Brenda (Jim) Pinney, Cindy (Randy) Askew, Terry (Jenni) Jager, and Jenny (Clark) Holborn, grandchildren Jon (Gena) Jager, Jessica (Alex) Kazos, Andy (Erin) Pinney, Michelle (Kevin) Buchholz, Eric Askew, Andy Askew, and Sam Askew; twelve great-grandchildren; his brother Richard (Jeanette) Jager; sister-in-law Luann Jager; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Josephine, parents Herman and Elizabeth, brother Leon Jager, grandsons Jeremy Jager and Jason Jager, and great-grandson Samuel Kazos.
