Robert Kneifl

Bob J. Kneifl, 64, of Ponca, NE passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Private family services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponca. Father Andrew Sohm will officiate. Burial will be in Ponca Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 9th, at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, NE. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Husker Bob was born September 8, 1956 in Sioux City; he was the son of Nicholas and Agnes (Strauss) Kneifl. He was the youngest of 12 children. Bob grew up in Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1974. He received an associate’s degree in auto mechanics from WIT.

In 1976, Bob married Dixie Gupton. To this union a daughter, Jessica was born. Bob married Kim Lanning, his wife of 39 years, on November 7, 1981. To this union two daughters were born, Alicia and Amanda.

In 1982, Bob started Husker Service in Ponca and was still operating the business after 38 years. He was a dedicated, 26 year member of the Ponca Fire & Rescue Department where he served as rescue captain and was a great mentor for the Fire Prevention Department. Husker Bob enjoyed hunting, bowling, and the many years he served as a softball coach and umpire.  Bob was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife Kim Kneifl of Ponca; 3 daughters: Jessica Kastning (Jim) of Ponca, NE, Alicia Kloster (Eric) of Crofton, NE and Amanda Filsinger (Christopher) of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 brothers: Tony Kneifl (Laura) and Terry Kneifl; 4 sisters: Jeanne Fuchser (Duane), Carol Minor, Mary Jo Jones and Linda Deabler; and a sister in law Mary Kneifl; 9 grandchildren: Nick, Katy and Dylan Kastning, Kaylee, Peyton and Ethan Kloster, Logan, Brady and Kennedy Filsinger.

Husker Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Don Kneifl Sr. and Nick Kneifl; sisters: Shirley Hoffert, Joann McGinty and Betty Pettit; several brothers and sisters in law. Husker Bob will be welcomed into Heaven by his beloved dog, Samson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ponca Fire & Rescue Department.
