South Sioux City-
Robert Gordon Prenger,83, of South Sioux City passed away Thursday, January 26th 2023 at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 31st at 10:30 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 30th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 pm at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Bob was born March 26, 1939 in Creighton, NE, the son of Lawrence and Madeline (Hoferer) Prenger. He attended Heelan High School for two years and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1957. He worked for Milk Dairy Products for two years before starting work on towers with Dick Jorgensen in 1960. He married Jane Stull August 31st, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colorado Springs, CO. They made their home in South Sioux City, NE. He started his own business, Viking Erection Company that same year. In 1964 they welcomed a daughter, Corrin Rene and in 1966, welcomed a son Robert Michael.
Bob was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus in South Sioux City. Bob and three partners started the Sundown Lounge in the 70’s which he later owned and operated. Bob opened a retail sporting goods store by the name of Sooland Sports in South Sioux City, later sponsoring a fast pitch softball team by the same name. This team went on to many State and National tournaments.
Survivors include his wife, Jane; daughter Corrin (Jim) Bauerly; son Bob (Stephanie) Prenger, all of South Sioux City. 7 grandchildren; Sydney Prenger, Nicole Schmiedt, Brett Prenger, Jake Schmiedt, Easton Prenger, Chad Bauerly, and Danielle Bauerly, and 2 great grandchildren; Kashton Loofe and Brooks Bauerly. Brother Don (Sherry) Prenger Sr, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Brother-in-law Steve Larson, Sister-in-law Linda Prenger, Brother-in-law Bud (Jane) Stull.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Madeline, sister Cheryl and brother Tom.
