Robert D. “Bob” Pridie, 93, of Akron, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 11, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ellendale, in Rural Merrill, Iowa. Burial will be at St. Joseph Ellendale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 14, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd, Sioux City. Bob was born on January 4, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Charles E. and Geraldine (Carraher) Pridie. He attended grade schools in Sioux City, country schools in Plymouth County, and graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in 1946.

 

He married Marlene Vondrak on September 24, 1957, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA.  They moved to their farm southeast of Akron where they raised ten children.  He had a passion for farming and enjoyed raising livestock, word search, storytelling and spending time with family. Bob was a hard-working farmer, and even in retirement he continued to help with planting and harvest.  He was an avid gardener and tended to his garden daily. He also enjoyed puzzles, reading and tending to his “Kansas Cats.” His Ellendale church family was near and dear to his heart, as he assisted in many Ellendale famous apple pie makings.

 

Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Marlene (Vondrak) Pridie; his children: Robert J. (Staci) Pridie, Joanne (Randy) Waterbury, Patrick (Yvonne) Pridie, Janelle (Doug) Dickman, Jennifer (Mike) Schultejans, Jacqueline (Steve) Carlson, Joyce (Russ) Toben, Eugene (Tracy) Pridie, and Jodi (Curt) Meier; 38 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Francie Peterson, Carol Idso, and Tim (Mary) Pridie; sister-in-law, Peg Sitzmann; sister-in-law, Jane Muller; and brother-in-law, Jim Gergeni.

 

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Parker; granddaughter, Rachael Toben; his parents: Charles E. and Geraldine (Carraher) Pridie; his father and mother in-law: Eugene & Eileen (Sweeney) Vondrak; sister, Patricia Bliss; brothers: Charles and Gerald; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Ella “Betty” Pridie, Robert Peterson, Marlin Idso, Paul Harpenau, Mary Lou Gergeni, Allen Sitzmann, and John Muller.

 

Pallbearers will be: Sydney Pridie, Brooke Rolfes, Travis Pridie, Alisha Schnoor, Blake Schultejans, Christopher Carlson, Krystal Biehle, Elijah Pridie and Lauren Meier.  Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
