Roberta Kaye Miller (formerly Wright) 54, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 21, 2022 in her home. A memorial service will be 5:00 P.M. Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue. Visitation will begin at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family encourages casual attire due to the heat.
Roberta, or Berti as she was known to many, was born November 11, 1967 to Elwin and Audrey Wright. She was raised in Cherokee, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee in 1986. She attended Spencer School of Business and received her Secretarial training endorsement.
Berti worked in various secretarial jobs and at Aalf’s manufacturing before starting at the United States Post office in 1994, where she met the love of her life, Bart and was married in 1997.
Berti’s joy in life was her three children, Simon, Heather, and Shawn. She enjoyed nature, including long hikes, bicycle, and motorcycle rides. She spent countless hours volunteering for the Siouxland Humane Society and Noah’s Hope, including raising many litters of motherless kittens for adoption. She enjoyed crime novels and reality TV shows about survival/the outdoors. She took great joy in visiting the Miller family cabin in Minnesota and insisted all the van seats for vacation be occupied by a neighborhood kid or a niece or nephew. She welcomed multiple foreign exchange students into her home and was proud to model strong American values for them. She was very happy to have her home be the hub of activity for all the neighborhood kids for many years.
She always opened her heart and home to a child or animal in need.
She was a person of faith who believed in God and heaven, which she felt was best seen in the wonder of nature.
She was very proud of her career of 25 years in various jobs at the US Post Office in Sioux City and loved her Postal Family.
She loved her hometown Cherokee, Iowa, took great care to educate her children about the beauty of Spring Lake Park, and took many trips there to visit Careys, Family Table or her brother Bobby’s acreage to see what new animals might be there and enjoy family time.
Berti is survived by her husband, Bart Miller; children, Simon, Heather, and Shawn Miller; sister, Lori Wright; brothers, Bobby and Lonnie Wright; mother-in-law, Susan Miller; brothers-in-law, Steve (Cissy) Miller, and Brett Miller; sisters-in-law, Megan (Justin) Edgington, Sami (Joseph) Erickson, and Stefanie (Jason) Wright; special family friend, Noah Risdal; and many nieces and nephews.
Berti was preceded in death by her father, Elwin, mother, Audrey, father-in-law, Steve Miller, and special family friend, “Grandpa” Larry Lehman.
Due to the “black thumb” Berti had, killing any plant she ever touched, and the inability to bring plants home to Berti’s cats, the family requests that anybody wishing to donate a memorial do so to the Siouxland Humane Society or Noah’s Hope Animal shelter in her name.
