Rodney Ray “Rod” Moore, 87, of Dakota Dunes, SD passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022 at a local hospital with his loving wife and daughters by his side.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. A private Military burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Rod was born May 6, 1935 in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Lucille (Seloover) Moore. He graduated from Central High School in 1953 and attended Sioux Empire College in Hawarden, IA. Rod joined the Air National Guard on April 15, 1953 at 18 years of age. He began his career as an Air Technician with the 185th Iowa Air National Guard on February 16, 1956. He retired, after 32 years of service, on April 30, 1988 as Chief Master Sergeant.
He married Connie Buck McDonald on April 7, 1967. The couple have enjoyed winters in Arizona and Biloxi, Mississippi, trips to Onawa and Flandreau casinos, as well as card games with close friends. Rod was extremely proud of his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Rod was of Lutheran faith.
He was a life-long member of the Air Force Association, a member of the American Legion Post 64, member of the Boys of ’68, as well as a past member of the Sioux Airbase Credit Union Board of Directors.
Rod was a “fair-weathered” Minnesota Twin and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was an amazing water color artist and his family will forever cherish his painting.
Survivors include his wife Connie Moore of Dakota Dunes, SD; daughters: Mitzi (Mike) Benson of Sioux City and Piper (Doug) Perkins of Aneta, ND; grandchildren: Brett (Katie) Benson and their children: Ty and Kayla, Jessie (Coco) Cofield and their children: Jacobi, Kiya, and Zaydin, Kristi (Travis) Bentz and their children: Kota, Aisen, and Ryker, Ashley Benson (Pat Byrne) and daughter Mayzi, Taryn Donnelly (Moe Mahoney) and their children: Kambry, Berkeley, and Kolie; and Alexi (Blaine) Wilson and daughter Addilyn; sister Donna (Burke) Walter of Omaha.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Dash Donnelly, and nephew Marty Walter.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Taylor and Jeremy of the Unity Point ICU, for their kindness and dedicated care.
