Roger David Huot

April 16, 1937 — October 26, 2024

Salix, Iowa

Roger D. Huot, 87, of Salix, Iowa passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Saturday, October 26, 2024, with his family by his side.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, November 2, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Salix, IA. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Roger was born on April 16th, 1937, in Sioux City to Kathryn (Bratton) Huot and Roger A. Huot. Roger D. grew up on a farm just north of Salix and was fortunate to spend his entire life farming in the Salix, Sgt. Bluff, and Sioux City areas. He attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated from 12th grade in 1955 in a class of 8 students. In 1957, Roger joined the Iowa Air National Guard and completed 6 years of service until he was Honorably Discharged in 1963.

On August 15th, 1959, Roger was married to Judy O’Keefe of Leeds at St. Michaels Catholic Church. In August of this year, Roger and Judy celebrated 65 years of marriage with family.

Roger was very active in his community: He served as a member of the Salix Fire and Ambulance department for 53 years. He also served in the Salix City Council, the Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator Board, Parish Committee for St. Joseph’s Church, and Bishop Heelan Catholic School Parent’s Board.

In addition to farming full time, for years Roger worked as a Night Mechanic for the Sioux City Police Department, and the Sioux City Maintenance Garage. He also jumped in whenever anyone locally needed help - removing snow, driving and repairing school buses, cemetery maintenance, and other projects for neighbors and friends. If anything needed fixing, welding, tuning, dug or burned, Roger was the right man for the job.

For free time activities, Roger enjoyed bowling, camping and traveling around the Midwest and western US with his friends and family.

Roger is lovingly remembered by his Wife Judy, Daughter Diane Meehl of Buffalo MN, Sons David of Salix, Mark of Sgt. Bluff, and Tom and Barbara of Loretto MN. Brother John and Celayne of Florida, and sister Ruth Schieffer of Colorado.

Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren remember Roger for naps together in his recliner, and for his teasing and jokes.
