Roger Bruce Servis

June 29, 1945 — November 3, 2021

Roger Bruce Servis, formerly of Sioux City and Arnold’s Park, passed away peacefully at his home in Sioux Falls, SD on November 3, 2021.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Roger was born on June 29, 1945; the oldest child and only son to Richard and Lucile (Hamann) Servis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Roger was a huge Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, watching both teams in his Packers man cave. He would challenge anyone who didn’t think that Brett Favre was the best of all time. He was a voracious reader and loved watching movies, especially those starring Jack Nicholson.

Roger married Sharon Ione Rozell in 1965 and from this union they had a son, Garth and a daughter, Tracy.  Roger and Sharon were founding board members of the Floyd Slow-Pitch Softball Complex. He coached and sponsored teams for many years.

Roger married the love of his life, Linda Banhart on July 31, 1986. Roger and Linda loved the Fourth of July and spent weeks decorating their home, including lights galore to illuminate the entire neighborhood.

Roger spent many decades at Lake Okoboji. He was a fixture at the Central Emporium and Bavarian Gardens, where he enjoyed working with his dad. He was really good at playing games and looked forward to “family fellowship” night (the Servis family version of poker night). The family spent many loud and raucous nights together drinking Cold Duck and playing Dealer’s Choice. As a young boy, and believing that going from two to four younger sisters in one evening was a “revolting development”, he liked to terrorize those girls. As everyone increased in age, they all became great friends.

Roger is mourned and joyfully remembered by his wife, Linda, Sioux Falls SD; daughter-in-law, Christine, Omaha NE; son, Garth (Enean Mattes) and daughter, Tracy, all of Sioux City IA; step-children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Lemek; sisters, Bette (Tom) Lawler and Barb (Jeff) Ferguson; nieces, nephews and many other beloved relatives and cherished friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; oldest son, Bruce Jasper and sisters, Susan Haviland and Eleanor Lemek.
