Rolland L. Strong, 87, of Sioux City, IA, passed away December 21, 2021 at Sunrise Assisted Living. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be made to www.meyerbroschapels.com. Rolland was born in Bronson, IA to Merrill and Lucille (Deppe) Strong. He graduated from Bronson High School. He was united in marriage to Delores J. Horton on November 16, 1956 in Sioux City and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. The couple lived in France & Spain from 1957 to 1959, while Rolland was serving in the military. Rolland was a longtime member of Morningside Assembly of God and worked as a Peterbilt Mechanic for Sioux City Truck Sales for 25 years. He was a fan of machines, especially anything with an engine. He had a particular love for tractors after watching his father till his farm using a horse-drawn plow as a child. He enjoyed welding and terracing, having built many terraces in Woodbury and Plymouth County. Those left to honor his memory include his sons: Randy and Becky Strong of Jefferson, S.D., and Mark and Micki Strong of Lincoln, NE; four grandchildren, Adam Strong, Whitney Strong-Bak (Shawn Bak), Emily Magee (Joe Magee), and Tyler Strong; and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Delores.
