Ronald L. Brunton, 90, of Emerson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. Visitation will being at 2:00 P.M.
Ronald was born the son of Henry and Mary (Sammer) Brunton on September 17, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Bancroft High School and then honorably served his country in the United States Navy. After his military service, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State College and then a Master’s degree from the University of South Dakota. Ronald married Shirley E. Tyrrell on June 2, 1954 in Pender, Nebraska. They farmed in Bancroft for several years before spending most of their lives in Dakota City. They moved to Emerson in 1997. Shirley died in 2011.
Ronald began his teaching career at the Dakota City High School. He also taught for the Sioux City Public Schools for many years. He spent most of his time at East Jr. He also owned and operated a printing business for several years.
Ronald enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, gardening, and fishing. He also enjoyed being a very active member of the Masonic Lodge Olive Branch 274 for more than sixty years. He was also a member of the Abu Becker Shrine, Scottish Rite, and York Rite. He was a longtime member of the South Sioux City 1st Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and usher.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials.
Ronald is survived by his children, Brian Brunton of Papillion and Barb Brunton of Emerson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Shirley.
