Ronald "Ron" G. Barnes, 63, of South Sioux City passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at a local hospital.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 16, 2022 at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at Dakota City Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Ron was born February 27, 1959 in Sioux City, the son of Lester and Betty (DeRoin) Barnes. He married Patty Brogan on November 3, 1979 in South Sioux City, NE. The couple lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they had their 1st son. While living in Ely, NV, they welcomed their 2nd son. After living in Spring Creek, NV, the family moved back to South Sioux City, NE in the early 2000’s.
Ron worked as a paramedic in Las Vegas and then as a Nevada State Highway Patrolman, stationed in Ely, NV and Elko, NV with the K9 unit. After returning to Nebraska, Ron taught Police Science at Western Iowa Tech Community College and worked part-time as a police officer in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. Ron also was an examiner for the State of Nebraska DMV and was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Army National Guard.
Ron enjoyed HAM Radio, camping and fishing, but his greatest joy was spoiling his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Patty Barnes of South Sioux City; sons: Travis and wife Casey Barnes of Elkhart, IN and Justin and wife Samantha Barnes of Omaha, NE; granddaughters: Madison Barnes, TayLeigh Barnes, and Avery Barnes; his sister Valerie and husband John “Terry” Danielson of Dakota Dunes, SD; and his beloved dog Mabel Louise.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Betty Barnes and his niece Tasha Danielson.
