Ronald Albert Schuetz, 93, of Sioux City, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
Ronald, the son of Joseph and Justina (Goergen) Schuetz, was born February 17, 1931, on a farm near Currie, MN. At a young age, Ron’s family moved to Sioux City. After graduating from high school in Sioux City, he was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1951 to 1953. He was discharged in 1953 as a Corporal in radar maintenance.
Ron was united in marriage to Virginia (Desy) Schuetz on April 24, 1954, at St. Jean’s Church in Sioux City.
In 1953, Ron started his long-time career as an x-ray service engineer with Picker International in Sioux City. From 1956 to 1970, he was transferred to Cedar Rapids and then returned to Sioux City and continued until his retirement on March 15, 1996. In 2020, he moved to Sanibel Island, FL and returned in 2022 to reside at Holy Spirit.
Ron was a member of Sacred Heart Parish for 44+ years. His hobbies included fixing things, feeding his birds, and making sawdust in his garage.
He is survived by three daughters: Salli (Billy) Kirkland of Sanibel, FL, Dominique (Mark) Lyon of Spink, SD, and Jane (Steve Schlumbaum) Damrau of Attleboro, MA; son-in-law, Mark Hinds; grandchildren; Sarah (Jonathan) Case, Kate (Josh) Lanagan, Bradley (Brigitt Bigbee) Hinds, Vanessa (Doug) Flynt, Mary (Bryan) Fox, Joseph Lyon, Jon (Emily) Damrau, Angela (Chris) Bergstrom, 16 great grandchildren; Alex, Charlotte, Jonathan, and Benjamin Case, Dylan and Anna Lanagan, Lucian, Arloine and Dorian Hinds, Alexandra and Lyla Flynt, Anastasia and Katarina Fox, and Sadie, Spencer and Max Bergstrom; siblings Gertrude Sargent, JoAnn Weston, Michael Schuetz and James Schuetz; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; daughter, Ann Hinds; and siblings; Larry Schuetz, Bernice Schuetz, Kathleen Port, Dorothy Huebsch, Raymond Schuetz, Joseph Schuetz, Mary Kollschegg.
